Multiple Teams · Baseball Wins 4A Academic State Championship for 2nd Straight Year

For the second consecutive year, the Rifle baseball team has won the 4A Academic State Championship sponsored by Les Schwab.

The baseball team’s 3.69 cumulative GPA was the highest among all 73 of the 4A baseball schools in Colorado.

Last year the Bears also won the award with a 3.84 cumulative team GPA.

A team’s cumulative GPA is determined by using the cumulative GPA’s of players who participated on the varsity team for at least 75 percent of the season.

The varsity players who participated on varsity for the required part of the season included seniors Layton Stutsman, Alex Gould, and Eduardo Sandoval; juniors Ty Leyba, Morgan Robinson, Wyatt Carter, Ivan Quezada, and Lucas May; and sophomores Gabe Marbas, Bryer Rew, Blaine Vance, Takoda Chaney, Drake Montgomery, and James Magnuson.
