The Rifle High School varsity baseball team has won its third consecutive Les Schwaab 4A Academic State Championship for this past spring season with an overall team GPA of 3.69, highest among all 4A baseball schools in the state.
Cumulative grade point averages of varsity players who were eligible to participate in at least 75 percent of the season were used to determine the team overall GPA.
Those players include Wyatt Carter, Ty Leyba, Jordan Wright, Alan Munoz, Gabe Marbas, Drake Montgomery, Blaine Vance, James Magnuson, Takoda Chaney, Ivan Quezada, Riley Gray, Bryer Rew, and Morgan Robinson.
“It’s a real tribute to the kind of players we have had in our baseball program,” Coach Troy Phillips said. “Many of our players work hard in the classroom as well as other areas of their lives. I think that is part of the reason for our team’s success on the field. That work ethic leads to success in all areas of their lives.”
