Both the boys and girls basketball teams for Rifle head into the playoffs this week. The Rifle boys will play a first round game today at 6 p.m. at Thompson Valley and the girls will host a second round game against Green Mountain at 5 p.m. at Rifle High School.
The girls come in as a 13 seed and received a first round bye. The boys are the 46th seed and will face the 19th-seeded Eagles tonight. Thompson Valley is 14-9 on the season having finished third in the Northern League.
The girls will take on 20th-seeded Green Mountain, who beat Longmont 51-43 on Tuesday night to advance to the second round game. The Rams come in with a deceiving 11-13 record. It is deceiving because they played the third toughest schedule amongst all 4A schools with games against a lot of top 5A and 4A schools in the state. Two of their wins this season have come against teams with only 3 losses. That is the same number of losses the Bears have this season as they are 20-3 and on a 15-game winning streak.
Since Friday’s game is a CHSAA playoff game, district employees will not be able to get in for free. The only passes that will be accepted are CHSAA and CHSCA passes. Cost will be $7 for adults and $5 for students.
