The Rifle baseball team has qualified for the regional playoffs and will travel to Colorado Springs to face Air Academy at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The Bears are seeded 29th and will face the fifth-seeded Kadets in the early game. That game will be followed by one between 11th-seeded Cheyenne Mountain and 21st-seeded Pueblo County at 12:30 p.m. The winners of the two games will square off at 3 p.m. to determine a spot in the final 8 state tournament to be played the following two weekends.
Rifle comes into the game with an 11-8 record while Air Academy is 15-4.
Since Air Academy is on the U.S. Air Force Base the following instructions for entering the Air Force Academy have been provided by the school:
All visitors must enter through the South Gate (Exit #150). NO EXCEPTIONS. Upon arrival to the security checkpoint the driver of the vehicle will state the name of the contest they are attending and provide them with a current driver’s license. They could also ask for your current vehicle registration and/or current proof of insurance. Everyone is subject to search when entering this federal installation. They will ask to open the trunk and/or perform a cursory check of the interior of the vehicle. You have the right to refuse such an inspection, however you will not be allowed to enter. Drugs (to include medical marijuana), weapons, ammunition and explosives are not allowed at Air Academy events. Please know that we are very grateful to the USAFA for working with us on this issue. Please help us support their mission in keeping the USAFA a safe and secure military installation.
Cost will be $8 for adults and $5.00 for students/seniors.
