The ultimate experience for any golfer is making a hole in one, yet many golfers never experience it firsthand. For Rifle senior golfer Jacob Smith, that rare experience became a reality on the seventh hole at the regional championships in Montrose on Monday.
On the 165-yard par three seventh hole, Smith hit a nine-iron into a slight wind that started just right of the pin. it drew back and landed six inches behind the hole and jumped back right into the cup.
Smith’s hole in one was part of a excellent round of 74 that put him in seventh place and qualified him for the state tournament, which will be at Raccoon Creek Golf Club in Littleton on October 2nd and 3rd.
Joining Smith at state will be fellow teammate Wolfgang Smith who shot an 84, giving him 20th place and also qualifying him for the state tournament.
