Girls Varsity Softball · Eight Softball Players Receive All-Conference Honors


After finishing the most successful season in Rifle history with 20 wins and a fourth consecutive league title, the Bears softball team landed eight players as either first team or honorable mention on the 4A Western Slope League All-conference team.

First team selections included seniors Hannah Bodrogi, Zoey Loya, and Delaney Phillips along with junior Abigail Bonuales, sophomore Emma Poole, and freshman Hailey Worton. Honorable mention went to junior Raelynn Hampton and sophomore Kaylie Stark.

Bodrogi was also selected as the conference’s pitcher of the year while Phillips was chosen as the player of the year.

Bodrogi, a pitcher and outfielder, led the league in pitching victories with 14 (tied for 8th in state at 4A), earned run average (5.88), and strikeouts (38). In addition on the offensive side she hit .435 (12th in league) with 40 RBI’s (3rd in league) and 47 runs scored (2nd in league). She also stole 21 bases (tied for 3rd in the league).

Phillips played primarily second base and led the league in batting average (.693, 2nd in state at 4A for players with over 65 plate appearances), on-base percentage (.754, tied for 1st in state at 4A minimum 65 plate appearances), runs scored (64, 2nd in state), hits (61, 3rd in state), stolen bases (66, 1st in state at all levels), and walks (22, 8th in state).  In addition she set new school records for runs, hits, walks, modified on-base percentage (.779), batting average, stolen bases, quality at-bat percentage (85%), contact average (4.37), fielding percentage for a second baseman (.932), and total chances for a second baseman (117).

Loya, the team’s catcher, led the team in RBI’s  with 42 (a new school record and 2nd in league). She also hit .477 (9th in league) with 42 hits (3rd in league) and 20 walks (4th in league). Defensively she lead the league with a .976 fielding percentage.

Bonuales, who played shortstop, led the league in assists (67, a new school record). Offensively she tallied 31 RBI’s (6th in league), 44 runs (4th in league), and 21 stolen bases (tied for 3rd in league).

Poole, the Rifle third baseman, hit .500 (5th in league) with 13 doubles (2nd in league), two homeruns (2nd in league), 37 RBI’s (4th in league), and 31 runs (9th in league).  She also had a .784 slugging percentage (tied for 3rd in league) and a .622 on-base percentage (5th in league).

Worton, the team’s first baseman, led the league in putouts (182, a new school record) while hitting .488 (7th in league) with 40 hits (5th in league), nine doubles (6th in league), 27 RBI’s (7th in league), 20 walks (tied for 3rd in league) and 37 runs (6th in league).  She added a .659 slugging percentage (8th in league) and .600 on-base percentage (6th in league).

Hampton played outfield for the Bears and hit .434 with 27 RBI’s (tied for 7th in league) and 23 runs.

Stark also played outfield and hit .384 with 20 RBI’s, 36 runs (7th in league), 17 walks (8th in league), and nine stolen bases.
